day 20 - Lima

Day in lima ...
went to visit 2 museums with a lot of things to see ...
First the Museo Nacional de Arqueología Antropología e Historia del Perú

This is a stone from a temple in the north of Peru ... will go there next time perhaps !

This one is a stone from the ancient Pukara-culture around lake Titicaca (see day 12)

This monolith was used by a farmer as a dining-table !

And of course a lot of pottery ...

One with a special spout from which they drunk !

Masturbation was not alowed so they presented it with the death beside ...

All pottery of high quality of course !

Yet another culture of Peru ... even a bit modern !

There was no writen language in old Peru, but they used ropes and knots to keep a sort of trace of things to tell ... each knot represents something, but what ?

Then went to the second museum : Larco Herrera.
He was a guy who made an enormous pottery collection ... you tell it ... they have it.

On the way to the entrance I saw a real peruvian dog (no hair) ...

... the museum is surrounded by beautiful flowers ...

First I went to the main exhibit-area ... this one has a beautiful layout and enough explanations !

Big surprise ... not only pottery, but a poncho of feathers ....

A little box encrusted with green stones ...

... silverware used for rituals ...

... an idol ... I can imagine those in the niches in the temples I saw during my trip ...

... and of course golden golden plugs and ornaments ...

Afterwards you can walk through their storage-room ... filled to the top with all kind of pottery...

And down in the garden there are two rooms with the biggest collection of erotic pottery !

In the afternoon went to an adobe (clay) pyramid temple in the middle of Lima ... an older culture in Peru with connections to the sea ...

You can see that the clay-tablets are put vertically ... this to have more strength against earthquakes ...

A view on the ruins around the pyramid ...

And a reconstructed pottery in the little museum beside ...

these were the last visits I made ...
Went with my friends to a restaurant in the Barranco neighborhood of Lima and ate antichoouos, wich are pieces of heart grilled ... delicious ... and a piece of grilled fish ... all perfect ...

day 17 - Ollantaytambo - Macchu Picchu - Ollantaytambo

Departure very early ... train at 5:10, but you need to be there half an hour before to check-in ...

after an hour and a half train and a bustrip up the mountain ... these are the first glimps ...
what a scenery ...

pass the entrance of the site ... up some stairs ... and then ... here is to prouve that I was there ...

without me the scenery is better ...

... the famous rock behind is the Huayna Picchu ... with also constuctions ...
It was to high for me ... so I stayed on Machu Picchu...

the real entrance of the Inca-time ...

and from here you can see the different parts of the city around the central plain ...

... but first the temple of the sun ... not accesable for the momet cause of restauration ... but very close nevertheless ...

below the temple is a cave for the royal mummies ...

... went back up following a little series of fountains (purification) ...

passed by the home of the inca ...
Inca is the head of the people - the emperor, so there where in the whole of this civilasation only 13 inca's ...

up to the main temple area ... with the main-temple ...

the temple of the 3 windows ...

and a little room where, they tink, the mummies were prepared ...

nearly on the top there is a roc ... and you have to compare the upper-line of this rock with the surrounding mountains ... did they do this or is it natural hasard ...

and on the top there is the temple with the calender-stone Intihuatana ..
the shadow was used to determine the different periods of the year ...

down to the main sacred plaza ...

with some lama's ... imported from the Altiplano from Puno ... as the gras is sweeter here they had problems with their teeth ... with even some death-cases ...

up to the temple of the sacred rock ...

... to other part of the ruins ... temple of the moon ...

temple of the condor ...

( i don't see a condor in the stone) ... used for sacrifices ... the blood went down into the ground ...
... a little shock when I saw a movement nearby ...

I took a rest and as I had some time left ... went to see the Inca-bridge ... 20 min via little roads with very deep valleys beside it ...

the bridge seems to be some wood layed between two walls of brick ... spectaculare, but I thought it would be a hanging bridge ...
Back to the ruins and then way down on foot ...

and after an hour the bridge over Rio Urambamba

... a wild river ...

up to Agua Calientes: the village where the train stops in the middle of the streets ...

Went for a lunch at Indio Feliz

... WOW!
40 sol for ... melon ...

salmon trout with mango, vedgetables and delicious chips

and orange-cake ...

When I left I said to the lady of the house that even in Europe it was very seldom that I ate so well ...
... and then back to the train ...
I played a ridiculous card-game with 3 austrians guys and a portugese lady ... it was called 'kühe-handler' which mean cow-trader ... i have to try to get this game ...
Just enough time to take a shower and to bed ... wonderful day !!!
